The F Word's Best Local Restaurant Competition drew to an end last night in a very close final but ultimately it was Gordon who had the final word...
Throughout the series Gordon, Janet, Jean-Baptiste and The F Word Restaurant diners have been whittling down the shortlist of contenders from the 4,500 nominated restaurants. Over the eleven episodes of the series we were left with just two finalists to battle it out to be the winner; The Pheasant or Cambridgeshire and Lasan of Birmingham.
The Pheasant pride themselves on producing great, hearty British food, with local ingredients and leaving nothing to waste. Lasan's ethos is to push the boundaries of Indian cuisine in terms of flavour and presentation. Their restaurant menu encompasses all manner of dishes from various Indian regions.
It was a tough one to call as the F Word restaurant diners, mostly made up of food critics, scored the two teams with a mere nine points between them. Yet, as Gordon continually stressed throughout the episode, the final decision was his.
In the end Gordon agreed with the decision of the diners and crowned Lasan, who scored 70 points, The F Word's Best Local Restaurant 2009.
Despite not making it into the final, we here at VeryThai are extremely proud to have seen a Thai restaurant make it into the semi-finals of the competition. Congratulations to Patria Weerapan and her Simply Thai restaurant team from Teddington for becoming the top placing local Thai Restaurant in the UK!
